DSLR RAW Format Preferences
« on: 2014 May 04 08:00:32 »
Hello,

There is some additional information to be carried in DSLR_RAW confguration in PisInsight, I visited official and unofficial sites and each indicate the best settings for DSLR RAW configuration but differ from each other.

you can tell me, what is the best configuration or the default configuration is the best?

Additional information, I use a Nikon D600 for my photographs.

Regards,

Leandro

This is the prefered option 'raw cfa' format hint equivalent.

There may be other views, but I understand this to be the BPP default.

Hi Leandro

For astronomical images, this settings are the recommended.

For non astronomical image you may want to debayer the image, in that case maintain the default settings. You also can maintain always the default and use format hints for astronomical images.

Saludos, Alejandro.

Hello Alejandro,

I understand your explanation, thank you.

Now, when I use BPP with RAM files, in this moment use the setup DSLR_RAW?, same situation for other process?

Is it neccesary use the script BatchFormatConversion for the process ImageIntegration (conversion RAW to FITS files) in the last version PI? or I can use the RAW file and not neccesary the BFC.

Thank you,

Leandro

The BPP script has an option 'CFA image' somewhere at the right.  Make sure to tick this option when you process RAW (DSLR) files and and BPP will automatically add the attributes 'raw cfa' to all process that need it (it is harmless to have a redundant 'raw' attribute, so just check this option if you process any DSLR image with BPP).

You do not need to convert the images first, in fact there is no real benefit to convert them before BPP (any operation will generate FITS file anyhow).

Thank you very much Bitli, today I will verify the option in BPP, I have a lot of work.

Any question, if I use the standard option preprocessing with Pix, Imageintegration, calibration, etc..., I need transform the RAW format files to TIFS files before the process or I can use directly the RAW files?

Thank you,

Leandro

You do not need to convert the images first

There is only 1 situation I know of where you do need to convert RAW to FITS and that is if creating a "superbias" from 100+ bias frames - your computer will run out of memory with that many RAW frames going into a single integration process.
