What is the difference between a gamma stretch and a normal Histogram Transform?

They use two different functions to stretch the data. In a nutshell, a gamma stretch yields lower contrast than an MTF (middtones transfer function) of the HT, which uses an algorithm called rational interpolation. There is another function, the logaritmical stretch, that yields results that are in between gamma and the MTF.

I also saw there was something called AutoHistogram that seemed to have a gamma stretch component.

In any case, I found the secret cache of dlls including the GammaStretch... did not appear in menus when added in with the others and rebooted.  More special sauce?

I have to say that the tutorial mentioned above was very helpful to me, especially all the settings I slavishly copied.  But that tutorial just works on one greyscale image.  For LRGB I guess you process each image separately, then combine at some point.
