How to apply ABE to a number of images?
« on: 2014 January 31 22:12:33 »
I want to apply ABE to a number of images. The image container seems to be the obvious thing to use here, but it does some strange things.  I load the files into  the image container window, select an output directory and drag the new instance triangle of the image container to the ABE window. I then get two sets of images: one set opening in the workspace to which ABE has been applied and another set in the chosen output directory to which ABE has NOT been applied--they are just duplicates of the original images (confirmed by subtracting one image from the other in PixelMath).

So my question is: How to I get the images to which ABE has been applied into the chosen output directory and how do I prevent a large number of images opening in the workspace?

Hi Geoff,

On the ABE tool, open the Target Image Correction section and select:

* Correction: Either subtraction or division, depending on the type of nonuniform illumination that you are fixing (additive or multiplicative).

* Discard background model: Enabled.

* Replace target image: Enabled.

This should make the ABE process compatible with ImageContainer.

Hi Geoff,

why do you apply ABE to the single lights and not to the masterimage? What´s the advantage?

Hi Gerhard.
I have a number of images of the same object taken over several nights and involving meridian flips, so the frames don't quite line up. For one reason and another, i don't have flats, so I want to correct for vignetting. Each image has a simple background correction, but if I combine all images the background becomes more complicated. So i think it is better to keep the ABE application simple and correct before combination

unless it's somehow broken in the latest versions of PI, it works… have done this many many times.

all those images open look like ABE was not configured to replace the target image.

I've just tried the procedure given by Juan above and it works. Thanks Juan.

Kai

well post the process icons for the image container and the ABE and maybe someone else can try it and see what happens.

you need to use ImageContainer to identify the files.

then drag the ABE process icon onto the ImageContainer icon (or vice versa)

there's no need for a process container here…
