PI stops in Staralign after a few frames
« on: 2014 January 24 02:45:27 »
Hello,

I have 25 frames made with the ATIK383L and a Canon 135mm/2.5 @ 3.5 lens. The frames are each 30 minutes and I use a Astrodon Ha 3Nm filter. The object is Simeis 147 (SH2-240).

Staralign slows after 5 or 6 lights when doing the star-detection.
By the time SA is busy with the 8th or 9th frame it stops the star-detection and I have to cancel/stop the process. The laptop on which it runs is not stopped. I can do other things as quickly as normal.
When I use SA for images I make through my telescope (APM 107/700) with the same camera and filter, everything goes very smooth. Even after 25 lights the process runs very quick.

Someone any idea?

Thanks for reading,
Jos

- Which version of PI (build number)?
- Which OS?
- Which messages do you see in the console window?

Hi Georg,

sorry for my late answer. I was away for a few days.
My OS is 32-bits Windows XP with 2 GIG of RAM. The version of PI I have to check, but I installed it about a month ago (45-days trial version). The console don't give any errors. It just slows at the point of star-detection and after a few minutes it just stops.
Someone on the Dutch forum has tried these files on his 64-bits machine and it went without problems. So I guess I try it on another machine which runs 64-bits Windows 7 with 8 GIG RAM. Problem is, that I can't run the 45-days version on another machine, so I will have to re-ask a  trial-license.

I would recommend to run PI on 64 bits -you easily run out of memory on 32 bits. Also note that it is not really supported on XP http://www.pixinsight.com/sysreq/index.html . Also make sure you have the latest version - there have been a couple of updates the last weeks.

Thanks a lot Georg..I have already send a request for a new trial license for my 64-bits machine. Hope they approve it.

Hi Jos. You don't need a new trial license. Just copy the license file to the new computer (see the FAQ for more information). Also, all OS releases are avalaible in the software distribution area.
