I don't know if there is some special procedure to update to the latest release but with my configuration pixinsight crashes every time at the end of the start "process", I'm able to see the windows of pixinsight the loading of modules in the process console. The splashup windows start to fade out and tells "pixinsight up and runnning" and it crashes every time.

I installed the new version overwriting the old application in the "/Applications folder"

I attached the detailed crash report...

I have the same problem. There is no good workaround yet other than to either upgrade your OS or continue to use an older version of PixInsight.

There is a bug in the dynamic loader (ld) of Mac OS X 10.7 that causes problems on systems with old versions of the libcrypto and libssl libraries. As Mike says, there's no good solution to this problem.

I strongly recommend you upgrade your machine to Mac OS X 10.8 or 10.9.

Ok understood, I will go back to the older version for now.

PS:
By using macports is possible to update openssl to a newer version (OpenSSL 1.0.1e) but it'seems to not solve the problem...
I didn't get why ? Maybe my assumption to update openssl (and libcrypto that is part of it) is wrong ?

Just installed 1.8.1071 on OSX 10.7.5 after uninstalling previous version.  PI crashes constantly on startup.

I have just changed the System Requirements page to reflect the fact that we have not tested PixInsight 1.8.0 on Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7.

For now, I will upload installation archives for the previous version 1.8.0 RC7, but I am unable to build a final 1.8.0 version compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 right now. Active development of the PixInsight Core application will continue in January. I am sorry about this, but I do what I can.

On the other hand, why don't you upgrade your computer to OS X 10.8 or 10.9?

I simple cannot go with a newer version, my old macbook is at his latest compatible version of OSX. I use pixinsight on mac not so often and mainly for some minor changes, but mostly only for checking/viewing the fits images. My real working station for pixinsight is a pc with a more adequate computing power(i7, 16gb ram etc etc ...).

PS(developer aims "maybe"): I tried today to use a recent version of openssl 1.0.1e, I played with symlinks pointing the libssl and libcrypto to the new versions but pixinsight seems to ignore that and the error is still the same.

Hi,

It's Christmas, right? :)

I have managed to build the entire platform on an old Mac Pro with Mac OS X 10.6 and an old development tool chain. So we have a special version of PixInsight that runs nicely on Mac OS X 10.6 and---hopefully---on 10.7 too.

You'll find the installation packages on Software Distribution. The packages are:

PI-macosx10.6-x86_64-01.08.00.1071-20131218-c
PI-macosx10.6-x86_64-01.08.00.1071-20131218-t

respectively for commercial and trial licenses. Please let me know if it works as expected.

Yes, I had this same problem under Mac OS X 10.7.5 but the latest release (PI-macosx10.6-x86_64-01.08.00.1071-20131218-c) seems to have fixed the crash. Haven't had much of a chance to use this release as yet, but so far things seem to be working. Thanks to Juan and crew for the quick fix for this rather serious issue.
