DSLR with CLS filter preferred method
« on: 2013 December 04 00:45:11 »
I was wondering if there is a preferred method to handle the colour cast from using a CLS filter. I presently let DBE handle it but have seen others use background neut first or channel balancing?? thanks.

DBE followed by BN followed by CC.

it's true that DBE mostly neutralizes the background but i still do the BN step.

What are the expected problems, if any, if the order is not that? I usually do BN, CC, and then DBE...

Well, one problem is that until any gradients have been removed (by DBE) it can be very hard to get an accurate sample of the true background for BN...

I find that after a good DBE run with the neutralize option set (sorry, don't have PI here to check the exact wording of the check box) BN seems like a no-op.

yes, that's true, DBE has this side effect. though i think if you tick "normalize" in the DBE control panel then it would not. luckily the default is no normalization.

seems like counterintuitive naming since normalization implies to me alignment of histogram channels. however i guess it refers to normalizing with respect to the pre-dbe image.
