Updating PI
« on: 2013 December 01 04:41:14 »
Hi, I have noted there have been no updates to 1.8 Ripley for months.  Not that I am complaining since things are working well. However, is all updating still done from the built in update tool or should I be logging into the main download site as well?
Thanks, Steve

are you talking about the RCx series?

there is a new release of the "final" 1.8 which is available on the endor server. it's something beyond the Release Candidates but is not yet final. if you don't have an account on endor you can PM juan and he can make you an account.

I am on RC7  01.08.00.1023

It is all working so no plans to upgrade.  But I was just wondering if no one was developing enhancements etc for my version....

see this thread:

there are significant differences in many of the processes between RC7 and the pre-releases. that being said CosmeticCorrection is broken in the latest pre-release.

So has the "official" release of 1.8.0 final-final-version happened yet?

If so will the update be automatic to those with RC7?

I'm new to PI and don't have any experience with version updates yet so a little hand-holding about the update process would be welcome.

ordinarily (in the 1.7 timeframe) the updates pretty much all came via the update system.

the same is true for the RCs in that updates to modules and scripts come thru the update system. but if my memory serves we've had to download the core application on each RCx upgrade.

i think once 1.8 is released then we'll be back in a situation where the 'core' can be updated from the update system. of course this type of update makes you input your username/password for the distribution system, which seems to trip people up a bit. i assume you'll have to download the final version from the distribution server just like all the RCs. right now the "almost final" versions are hosted in endor rather than in the distribution website.

Thanks!  From what I'm reading here the final release should be any day now.

I'm not sure what the 'endor" site is, but it sounds like pre-release files so I'll just be patient.

oh endor is a fileserver that Juan set up for PI users. you can share files with other users there and juan can make 'workspaces' which contain beta releases, etc.

if you PM juan he can make you an account on endor.
