New to PI, need help with processing canon RAW images
« on: 2013 November 14 07:41:49 »
OK, I am new to PI, although I have been using DSS for awhile. My pictures in DSS turn out fairly well for the LP in my area. So here is the equipment I am using: Canon t2i with settings set to adobe RGB and auto white balance per recommendations from Jerry Lodriguss' DVD. 6" inch Celestron reflector on CG5 goto mount, Orion 80mm guidescope with AG driven by PHD. Canon t2i connected directly to the focuser with T ring, no filters.

Now my first simple question: Does PI need to be set to the adobe color space, or leave as is?

Second: is this workflow still relevant for my situation:

When I try to use the BPP script with all relevant files (Lights, Darks, Flats, Bias, I end up with this: (see attach)

What am I doing wrong as far as settings? I have watched Harrys videos, but most tutorials I have seen are either older versions, or more pertaining to CCD camera images.

I converted to jpeg, so the image is a little dirtier, but you get the idea. This was done using the bpp script. I have not modified the image in anyway other than format and resize conversion. Thanks for the help.

It looks to me that the image is still linear. If you are using STF that only makes it non-linear on the screen. To actually make it non-linear you have to use Histogram Transformation (HT). You can copy the setting from STF by dragging the triangle onto the bottom bar of HT. And once it's non-linear there are other processes you can use too.

The difference between CCD and DSLR ends once the RGB composition is created. From that point the two should be the same for the most part.

White balance and colour space are irrelevant when using RAW files (thankfully).

... and if you are using the batch processing script, it implements a flavour of that workflow you linked to.

Thanks for the help. I did find out one thing from Harrys videos, you can unlink the auto stretch, that is what was giving me the really red color. Unlinking the auto stretch and tweaking it a little I was able to get a decent first image, which needs a lot of work. I forgot to convert the file, so I will post later. Seems funny that the forum for this program doesn't accept fits since the main output for PI IS fit. ;)
