Hello and first question..
« on: 2013 November 01 03:16:09 »
Hi All,

Just a quick msg to say hello. I am new to PI & am currently on first week of 45 day eval period. Already really starting to like some of its features/ capabilities of which there are just so many. It's like 'brain' overload trying to remember them all... I come from using aip4win (quite experienced) together with Pshop & have dabbled a little with Maxim.

Anyway, my first question relates to stacking of images etc.  In both aip4win & Maxim there are options to reject frames at the stacking stage based on for example elongation of stars (and some other parameters - Maxim uses a feature called 'measure All'  - I find this very useful as often my guiding may go a bit off for say 1 or 2 frames out of a batch of 18 X 600secs. Obviously, I would like to reject these rogue frames from the stack. Can PI do this or is a case of me having to manually check each frame & then excluding these from the files to stack...?

Thks a lot - I am really looking forward to giving PI a thorough work out..

John.

Welcome! :)

You seek the SubFrameSelector script.  It does exactly what you're asking, and does so with a rather impressive amount of control.

You can find the latest version in http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=5712.0

I recommend downloading from there, so you get the included documentation, which is quite thorough.

If it's of interest to you at all, my own SFS expressions can be found in this post http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=6144.msg41751#msg41751 along with some discussion around arriving at them.
