That's odd.

Have you tried the various ways of opening? Cmd-O, File/Open, double click on the background? Do they all close the Finder dialog?

Cmd-O and File/Open don't work too. I can open file when double click on the file in Finder only.

I cannot reproduce this on my early 2009 2.93Ghz CoreDuo iMac.

I have two computers. One iMac (mid 2011) on my work and second MacBookPro with Retina (2012) at home. This issue reproduces on both.

I remind, this issue appeared after update OSX to 10.9. Before, everything worked perfectly.

P.S. When i open BatchPreprocessing and try to open files i get error. (see attached screenshot)

I've just found solution. PixInsight needs adding in Accessibility.

That is good news!

I am curious though. I do not have PixInsight in Accessibility and yet have not had your issues. In fact none of my applications are there. Perhaps there is some difference with how I have installed.

Interesting find! How do you add PI to this list?

Found it. You have to drag your application icon to the preference panel to add it to the list. Of course the preference pane must be unlocked first.

Ah ha, not from the Dock but straight from the Applications folder. Thanks.

Didn't fix it for me. I added it to the Accessibility preferences pane, but the file open dialog instantly disappears still.

It seems that if I first open a file by dragging it into the workspace, the Open File dialog starts working.

Hi all,

This is a bug in Qt 4.8.5, which is the version of Qt used in PI 1.8.0 RC7:

https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-34012

Fortunately, this bug has been fixed a few days ago. We are very close to a 1.8.0 release version of PixInsight, so I ask for a bit of patience. Hopefully, the new version will be 100% compatible with Mavericks.

In the meanwhile, the workaround is using platform-independent file dialogs:

Edit > Global Preferences > File I/O Settings > Use native file dialogs (uncheck, then press F6 to apply globally).

Of course, PixInsight should not be added to Accessibility...

Sorry for the inconvenience.
