Hi,

Yesterday I upgrade to new OSX Mavericks, the new OSX improves battery life by 20% and usability specially if you have multiple monitors.

PI seems to work fine with a minor caveat. The file dialog loses the history, for instance every time the file dialog is open it uses de default location and filename.

Cheers,

Jose

I'll second that comment.
PixInsight "open file" and "save file" dialog boxes always to go to ~/Documents.

You must have missed my reply to your other post:

If you tick the "Remember File Open file type" option in the File I/O Settings I think it fixes this problem. Not intuitive but I think it works.

Or did you try this and it didn't work?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I just tried your suggestion and it didn't solve the problem. This problem didn't exist before the OS upgrade.

Cheers,

Jose

Interesting. I also didn't have the problem before and this option fixed it for me. Can you summarize your hardware. I'd be particularly interested if a SSD and/or fusion drive is involved.

The I/O preference trick worked for me in Mavericks, and I had had that problem ever since Lion. But now I'm happy!

How much free space is on the SSD? Do you use it as your PI swap storage?

It may well be reinterpretation of perfectly good, but different, settings from previous version doing different things during update.
I'm wary of those kind of things, and that's why I never update my linux box but just reinstall and keep my /home intact.
Even doing so, from time to time I have to wrestle some kde inconsistency due to the same config files in my home being converted to the new release, and not producing sane results.
My guess is: who used their macs more or less to the defaults are fine. Those who prefer to tweak many settings will have more chance of getting this behaviour.
Of course, I don't have a mac so this is all pure speculation!
Isn't it possible to reinstall everything and keep just the home directory?

That's a very sound guess. I keep a very vanilla system and my updates tend to be very smooth and I rarely suffer from these kinds of issues be it with PixInsight or Lightroom or whatever. I don't know if its possible to reinstall and keep the home directory. I'd have to do some research, but I also don't think I'll have time to try. Sound like a good exercise thought to isolate the problem.

A quick google indicates that the best approach for a clean install while preserving previous apps is to make a clone of the system (probably two to be safe) and then after a clean install use migration assistant to bring apps back from the clone.

I don't know if there's a better way but this is the path I would start with...but again I don't think I can find the time.

Hi,

My system is 4 weeks old and to my knowledge very vanilla, no tweaks or anything fancy.

Is there a way to completely remove PI including all settings? I rather start reinstalling PI from scratch than OSX.

Thanks!

Jose

I checked the boxes, applied and restarted PI, but it did not solve the issue.
The I/O dialog box is broken.
I find this surprising. Mavericks developer builds have been out for months: how could this escape anybody's noticing? Opening a file is the fundamental starting point for processing anything.

For the record:

In order to discard a custom setting as the culprit of the spoiled file dialog I created a Guest account and run PI from there. Same result, every time I invoked the file dialog either for opening or saving a file, the dialog didn't hold any contextual info.

Cheers,

Jose
