User authentication to update?
« on: 2013 July 24 16:35:21 »
I'm using a laptop away from home running RC7.  When I start PI, it tells me there are 9 updates, but when I try to download these, it asks for user authentication (username and password), which is at home.  This has never happened before on updates.  Why the new request?

It has always done that for system updates. It is annoying and I have complained about it. Licensed copies of the software should update without entering passwords. Sorry for your trouble. Of course these days you never should be far away from your passwords so if you're interested in doing something about it consider using LastPass or KeepPass2 together with dropbox or some other cloud storage.

I do not remember setting up a user name and password. The email for download and activation instructions has Username and password already setup in section 2. I can use this to login on the Pixinsight website but does not work for the update. So what gives?

Really this should be automated as even Adobe does this.

That account information -should- work with the PI update. If you haven't already I would double check that the download login works with your browser and then try the update again with the exact same information. I copy/paste from keepass2 to prevent typos. If that still doesn't work then an email to support @ pixinsight.com is in order. Be sure to include all the steps you have already tried including the username (not password) that you used. Otherwise the first response will tell you to log in using that user account :)

I can log in to the Software Distribution System page with no issues using my supplied username and password. It will not work for the updates. I just tried both just now.

Sent message to support last night. I had a response this morning. There was a problem with the username. It was fixed on their end and all is good. Updates are complete.
