mschuster's Scriptbox
« on: 2013 June 21 09:42:36 »
The latest versions of my public scripts are now part of the general PixInsight distribution.

This thread is effectively obsolete. I will no longer include links to downloadable versions in this thread.

Thanks,
Mike Schuster

Thanks Sean,

I have not been able to get my FWHM scripts to correctly measure the subs you posted, even with the new Star Detector noise reduction feature set to Juan's suggested value. The detected star set still seems to include small noise-like structures that bias my width measurements. I don't have a solution. For now I suggest using the DynamicPSF process instead and measure a few stars manually.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Not to rush you, but are these scripts ready for release? I've been making some tests and they work great with the current platform. It would be fantastic if they could be distributed through the update system. Just let me know!

Hi Juan,
Yes, thank you, they are ready for release. Also especially thank you for testing, and for providing the very useful improvements to StarDetector.

The SubframeSelector script is exactly what I've been looking for to sort and grade my images. I often take hundreds of subframes during my sessions and it was extremely frustrating and time consuming to try and sort these images through manual inspection.

Many, many thanks to Mike Schuster and everyone who contributed to this work. Job well done, one of the nicest tools I've yet used in PixInsight (script or otherwise).

Thank you James!

Please thank Hans Pleijsier, Georg Viehoever and especially Juan Conejero for their enormous contributions.

Mike,

Just want to add my thanks as well to you and to Hans, Georg, and Juan.  I find the SubFrameSelector hugely useful for image evaluation, especially when tweaking image integration settings and I know I am just srcatching the surface so far.

Its really invaluable, as are so many of the tools in PixInsight.  Its a learning curve but that is mainly because PixInsight and tools like yours have so much to offer.

Can't thank you enough.  As I told Juan in an earlier post, switching from my old routines to PixInsight has been a revelation and has made the processing part of imaging so much more enjoyable and logical.

Regards,

Jim

Is it too much to ask you to implement an x/y image plane tilt evaluation (a la ccd inspector)??? :)
It would be a great asset for apple owners to evaluate image plane squareness!!

thank you

Jim, thank you very much for your comments!

Riccardo, I am not motivated to work on this. IMO a single frame just does not give enough information to determine a focal surface and aberrations without strong, simplifying assumptions. For example, FocusMax needs to make multiple exposures to find the location of the focal surface at just one point on the frame. In my tilt example above, there is no way to tell which corner is inside/outside of focus given one exposure. I like using the Bahtinov mask for squareness measurements because it provides more information.

Regards,
Mike

Subframeselector is an amazing addition.  I'm really glad I found it today.  I hope it is added some day to the list of 'official' scripts.  It's too good to pass up!

i think it is part of the official release now... IIRC there was an update which contained these scripts.
