Alt n for preview ...weirdness on osx
« on: 2013 May 10 08:45:00 »
Running PI RC7 and OSX 10.7.5

Most of the time I can not  get alt-n to changer the cursor so I can drag a preview box. Is there any other way to drag a preview box ? It's very tedious to manually enter co-ords to place a preview.

Thanks

i think this is a long-standing bug either in Qt on OSX or in the way PI interacts with Qt.

in all versions of PI, eventually some modifier keys stop working. for me notably it's command r,g,b,0 to see the different planes of an RGB image.

i usually use the new preview icon to create previews. it looks like a piece of paper with the top left corner notched off.

With my Win7 x64 it the reverse.  Alt n creates the preview OK but the toolbar icon asks for the size & position.  I would rather have your version!  :)

Hi Charles, that is because you are using the new preview which has a + sign on it.

Check that you have active the toolbar "Mode" in View>Tool bars>Mode, and use the icon called "New Preview Mode" = Alt+N

Saludos.
Alejandro.

Many thanks Alejandro, I just discovered this and came here to apologise and saw your post!  I suppose I just went to the block of Preview related icons and 'New Preview' was what I wanted.
Regards
Charles

Ahhhh ..... This icon solves my problem in the Mac version as well. Alt-n doesn't work, but clicking that icon allows me to drag a preview !
Thanks !

Are you using a compact Apple keyboard without numeric keypad? We only have wired keyboards with numeric keypads, and we cannot reproduce any of these problems. These days we are working hard with PI on the iMac, preparing processing examples and some videos, and all keyboard shortcuts work without problems all the time with PI 1.8..

I'll try to buy one of these small (and useless, IMO) keyboards as soon as possible, to see if I can understand why they work so weirdly.

actually, because of the way i "grew up" on computers, i only use Sun keyboards, since the control key is in the right place. there was a time when it was hard to remap keys on OSX and some apple keyboards had caps lock implemented in hardware.

so i have a sun type-6 USB keyboard on my main computer (and i have several spare keyboards :) )
