I had no problem on closing  Window so far, On W7/64bits up to date.

On Windows some software can produce a report of the configuration of the machine, including the version of the dll used. Could  this be added to PI (or maybe there is a program or utility that can do it) ? It may be easier to find what is different between the system if you have consistent and complete information.  Just a suggestion.

As far as opening and closing images, never a problem. As I said previously, just when using the BE Script.

Just a suggestion :

Could you provide a PI-project with your image and all the processing steps made in history
until just before the problem occurs, if you close the windows ?

Maybe this could be helpful for others.

If the problem occurs only in 64bit Windows and not under 32bit, this could also be related to memory
problems (maybe in the upper range of mem, that is not adressed under 32bit, but with 64bit!!).

I have been experimenting and can now repeat the crash.

I have swapped out the memory and graphics card with another machine just to check but this has made no difference.

The following always crashes PI

Open .FIT image  (1392 x 1088 in my case)

Perform single Histogram stretch (Up to now I have not found any other process that will do this - it has to be the histogram module)

Close preview window (although it doesn't actually matter)

Enlarge window (double click in title bar) - this is important

Close (click X in corner of window)

Crashes every time

Select Close from the File menu returns the message ....

At address 0000000000000000 with exception code C0000005 :
Access violation: invalid memory write operation at address 0000000000000000

.... but PI continues to run.

Do not enlarge the window or enlarge so it does not quite fill screen and PI does not crash when clicking the X but that error message is still displayed if using File/Close.

I have done a lot of processing over the past few days with Win7 64 (i7 8GB) and MacOSX 10.8 (iMac) and both have been very stable.

Hi "Komet",

I tried your steps as described before:

-> Histogram Stretching
-> double click on title bar => maximize window
-> close window
-> Message appears "file is modified, close anyway" => yes

NO CRASH
So I still can not reproduce this.

Sorry ....
Kind regards,

Maybe something is special with you .fit file. Can you share a FIT file that causes a crash?

I can reproduce the crash. I have recorded a video:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/71653208/FotosForum/test2.mp4

The test has been done in a computer with Win7 x64 Ultimate SP1, Intel Core i/-2600K, 8GB.

How strange,

I did exactly the same steps - as in the video - but still I can't reproduce this ???
Win7 professional, 64bit, all updates.
Maybe this is related to some runtime libs of Windows ?!?

In the screenshot are those installed of my comp.
I also have .NET Libs V4 installed.

Maybe we could check this ??

I was able to reproduce this on my Win7 Premium-x64 laptop with 4 GB RAM. I was able to save the .hdmp file (188 MBytes) that Windows is trying to send to Microsoft. I dont have the tools to analyze that here (apparently this needs Visual Studio), but if someone knows how to analyze it, please let me know. The WER54E9.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml file (from C:\Users\georg\AppData\Local\Temp\) that was created at the same time is attached.

Juan,
i run 1.8 RC5 under Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit, and I've FREQUENT CRASHES also, expecially when I try to close some window, or delete via right menu a preview.
