PixInsight 1.8.0 RC5 "Ripley" Released
« on: 2013 March 28 05:54:27 »
Hi all,

Yesterday we released a new version of PixInsight: 1.8.0.997 RC5. This version fixes all (confirmed) bugs discovered in previous 1.8 release candidates. Despite the fact that we have released it as RC, this version should be considered a stable version of PixInsight. The only difference between RC5 and the final 1.8.0 release is the lack of some new tools and core application features.

RC5's most important new feature is undoubtedly the AperturePhotometry script, developed by Andrés del Pozo and Vicent Peris. This script opens up a whole new field of application for the PixInsight platform.

RC5 also introduces the new look of PixInsight 1.8 (new splash and about screens), completes the change of icons in the core application, has a number of core UI performance improvements, and adds a new Resources > Acknowledgments main menu item.

For developers, RC5 comes with a new PCL version (2.0.2, which we have released also yerterday) and new PJSR functionality. A nice new feature is the inclusion of the gnuplot utility program, which from now on is part of the PixInsight Core distribution on all platforms. This is an important improvement because gnuplot allows PJSR and PCL developers to generate sophisticated 2D and 3D graphical data and function representations, directly from PixInsight scripts and modules. I'll describe this new feature in more detail on the development forum boards.

Enjoy it!

Thank you Juan, to have support our complains along these difficult 3 months started end of December with a buggy beta version to end of March with a nice RC5. Hope to see the REAL NEW FEATURES of 1.8 soon.

I see you have a deep austerity in Spain  which finally fade on the Pixinsight look
Where are the colorful icons and blue losange gone on RC4/RC5 ? Gone for dark grey losange and black & white icons ! :'(
For me, it will take a little time to enjoy this new sober professionnal design.

Anyway, nice work and thanks for your time (and sorry your vacations cancelled)

cheers
Philippe

Thanks Juan, I appreciate your words, really
As you know these are difficult times. I've been a long time without appearing neither this nor other forums, but I have not been completely separated from the astrophotography: I have a hard disk full of data that I've been taking this year. I just need some time and especially emotional stability to get back to process images ;)

I read on one of the posts that these can be configured by the user. It would be nice if someone could post an " idiots guide" on how to do this.

Good job Juan, i like very much the new look and the grey (brownish?) splash screen.
I'll give it a try with old images (too much cloud and rain here in Italy to get new ones)

I have found a problem with DarkStructureEnhance script:

Running the script cause PI to crash.

PI Windows 64bit 1.8 RC5

Edoardo, this is a known issue in RC5, and already fixed. RC6 is coming soon with that fix, and many other stability ones.

I have found a bug in the Dark Structure Enhance script in this version. Near the end of the script it causes PixInsight to stop working, then I get a nag screen in Windows 7 to see if I want to close the program or let Microsoft find a solution. I have attempted this with reboots, etc, and still get the same problem.

If you look about three posts up in this thread you will see that this is a known bug fixed in the upcoming RC6
