Mask Question
« on: 2007 December 22 09:41:04 »
ACDNR has a really quick and easy Mask Generation tool.  Once you fine tune the mask in the Real time preview window using the controls on ACDNR is there anyway to save this mask for use in other processes?

Let me see if I understand.  Apply the mask using ACDNR using the preview part to adjust the mask.  Then Save the image itself while the mask is displayed on the Real TIme Preview window?

If that is the case then i can go on and apply other tools to this saved and masked image.  Now what do I do to remove the mask after I am finished using it.  I guess go back to ACDNR and remove the mask and save again?

Thanks for putting up with my questions

Mask Question

Is is more simple. Create a preview of the size of the image (full size). After applying the mask preview to this preview, and finally make a new image from it (drag and drop the identifier tab at the left of the image's window, or use the menu command). That's all. Now you can use this new image a as mask, with the traditional masks system.

Carlos  OK I got the Preview done and the mask created and dragged the preview to the workspace to have a second image which is of the mask.  If I go to the tool bar and select Mask and Select Mask in the drop down I cannot get it to recognize the masked preview I have created???

Maybe not.  I cannot reproduce these results and get a fucntioning mask most of the time.  Here is my procedure

Open an image and make a full sized preview
Open ACDNR and check mask preview to adjust the mask
With the preview box checked apply the ACDNR to the Preview which then looks like the mask
Drag the preview tab to make a image of the mask which is called Image_preview01
Close ACDNR

Now if I go to the toolbar and select Mask and then Select Mask I get the window to select Mask.  Sometimes in the dropdown the mask is listed and all works well.  Most of the time I get "No compatable images" and thus cannot use the commands under the Mask on the toolbar.  Cannot figure out my mistake???

Mask Question

Hmmm. One possible source might be different sizes. Make absolutely sure that both the image and the preview have the same dimensions (create the preview by dragging the image identifier and dropping it into the tab, and a new preview of the same dimensions will be created)
Another mistake could be that the active image is not the one you want to mask... or that the image is in grayscale and the mask in RGB, but this would be very unlikely to happen.

Jack, a little trick to draw previews that always will be with the same dimensions of the main image (I mean, using the New Preview mode). Resize the image window so it is bigger than the image. Gray zones will be drawn around the image. Now, using the New Preview mode, click outside the image (near the top left corner, for example) and drag the selection to the opposite sides of the image, covering the whole image (just go outside the image, again, and the bottom right corner, following the example).

;)
