Multiscale Median Transform - help
« on: 2012 November 17 07:39:34 »
Hi,

I'm trying for some hours to figure out what is happening with MMT, with no success!! I have an image - TIFF format - of the TSE from some days ago.
The original image is this one :

preview result image is this one :

applied MMT image is this one :

i do not have a clue why the preview result looks so good and when applied, looks like almost nothing happens.

I'm using PI for 5 years+ now and this is the first time I see something like this. Anybody encountered the same issue? Might this be a bug (tiff file problem)?

Will try to save it differently and check the outcome.....but nonetheless there is something little wrong in this.

Thank You
Catalin

There have been a couple of posts about this already. The wavelet based processes cannot produce an exact preview due to the way they work. Consider this only an attempt at an approximation.

Hi Catalin,

You can generate a new preview of the image and adjust the MMT setting on it.

Use real time preview only as a general aproximation an to understand how the parameters affect the images.

BTW, nice picture!.

Alejandro.

Thanks for answering and Georg, sincerely, I posted here and then in bugs because I really do not know how to treat this. I'm not a casual user of the forums as I can handle my way through Pixinsight pretty easy.
This was the first time I've seen such things happening and I really do not understand why.

I've processed a lot of images, deep-sky, moon, sun...and all the time, the preview window showed the correct output.

Also the HDRMT is not doing the job as in previous versions. I have pretty unexpected results with a lot of noise (just like ATWT and MMT) that simply doesn't make sense....

I mean, I have noise reduction in first/second layer (ATWT or MMT) , on preview pane shows that it works, I apply the instance and the image resulted looks totally opposite, grainy, noisy and missing all detail that has been shown in preview pane...

Thanks Alejandro!! I have some more nice pictures like this and I found out today I can not process them. Photoshop processing is not on my liking.....

Regards,
Cata

Hi Catalin,
A few processes do not always provide fast and useable real-time preview.
You may want to have a look at the script VaryParams (http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=4108.msg28562#msg28562). It may help generating images with a few values of the parameters, either to look at the effect of the parameter, or to fine tune the value once you find the approximate one.
This is not a panacea but helped me a few times - warning: I am the author of the script :-)

Hello Bitli,

thank you very much for your idea and for the script link!!

To tell you frankly, after seeing how this tools are working now, I'm a little bit disappointed but, maybe I'll have the time to learn it someday...

Thank You again to all of you who have responded!!

All the best,
Catalin
