Cant get my Ha stacked.....
« on: 2012 October 24 10:48:41 »
I have 7x 15min subs in Ha, taken with my OSC QHY8. I have looked at the individual subs, using the Blink function and they look OK. I can't however get them to stack correctly, either in Pixinsight or Deep Sky Stacker.  I have tried stacking everything as normal, using the stack script but it results in trails, whilst it is stacking it seems to have major issues getting matching stars, it takes at least 3 attempts on each sub before it moves on.
I also tried debayering the Flat and Light frames, extracting just the Red channel and them stacking that but it does not work either :'(
What am I doing wrong? Attached is a screenshot, showing the RGB stacked image, just the Red channel and the small image is the flat field.

Hi,

I'd need to take a look at two of these raw images to guess what happens. Can you upload them?

I have just created an account for you on our Endor file server. You should have received an email with your account's user name and password.

You can upload your file(s) to Endor and share them with me (jconejero). Or you can upload them to the 'Forum Shared Files' repository so all of us will be allowed to see them.

May be you can share the files copying them to "Forum Shared files" section and someone can take a look at them.

If you have uploaded the file to "My files", right click on it and copy. Select "Forum Shared files" in the opened window.

Regards, Alejandro.

Hi, I suspect that something could be wrong with your flats, see how the red channel looks like.

I have calibrated the ligths manualy and the result seems aceptable. This are the settings in each case:

Note that I have choosed GBRB as debayer's pattern. Check if this is the corresponding for your camera.

Integrated Image

And after DBE and CBR (only to green channel)

Regards,
Alejandro.

So did you do something to the flat to get it to work?  I suspect it is like that as I used a script to get the correct flat exposure time but since i have the Ha filter on the only channel to get any light would be red and this may have messed up the script. Not sure how best to take Ha flats with a OSC camera.......
Anyway, at least I know it is the flat that is the cause of the problem, maybe I should just use ABE/DBE when imaging in Ha and not bother with flats?

Nothing. I used the flat without modifications, the problem is that it did not work well. See how notable are the motes in the red channel.

mmmmh, I don't think so, flat are needed for this setup.
