http://www.pixinsight.com/faq/index.html2.6 Do you impose restrictions on the number of installations per license?
Absolutely not. Our commercial users have the right to install and use PixInsight on any computer they own. The only limit is that only they, as commercial licensees, have the right to use their copies of PixInsight. Other than the fact that a commercial licensee cannot share his/her copy of our software, we impose no restrictions.
2.7 If I have to replace or format my hard disk, do I have to re-activate my license?
Never. The PixInsight core application only asks for an online license activation if it can't find a valid license file. Your license file uniquely identifies you (the license holder) as a commercial PixInsight user. It is a very small file with the following name:
On Mac OS X and Windows:
pixinsight-license
On Linux and FreeBSD:
.pixinsight-license
and is located on your home directory (AKA folder):
On Linux and FreeBSD:
/home/<user-name> or /usr/home/<user-name>
On Mac OS X:
/Users/<user-name>
On Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user-name>
On Windows Vista and Windows 7:
C:\Users\<user-name>
where <user-name> is your actual user name on your operating system. If you simply copy your license file to the home directory of another machine you own, the commercial PixInsight application will run on that machine without problems. If you take the precaution to make a backup copy of your license file, then you'll never have to re-activate your license.
2.8 How can I install PixInsight on several machines?
You just have to copy your license file to your home directory on each machine; no license activation is required. Please read FAQ 2.7 for details.
