software download

Can someone PLEASE help me.  I've been a PixInsight user for more than 2 years... love the software... but I'm trying to set up a new observatory computer and I can't download the install files.  ( I have my lic file from my laptop ).  My download user / name password didn't work.  Pix support emailed what they have on their server and that doesn't work either.. I've been trying for 3 days now and it's getting very old.  I can't believe people who can write such decent software have a problem with websites / user names / passwords.

Any one have any ideas?  Do I need to be standing on my head while entering the password or something?

My guess is that there is a possible confusion between the software download site userid/password *and* the forum userid/password. They are not the same by default.

No, that's not it.  I logged in here with what I thought was my forum password and that worked.  Also my forum user name and comm lic user name are different.   My comm user name is aacker1 my forum user name is wa4hnd.  ( no confusion there... at least not on my part )... the user name that was sent to me via email is correct, it's just that the password doesn't work.

Are you copying and pasting the password or typing it out?

tried both ways on 3 different computers and used 3 different browsers on each. 

I've been a C/C++/C#  programmer for over 30 years.  Believe me, I've tried all the options I know <g>.   Either there is a problem with their security backend lookup or a problem with their site.  Can someone do me a favor and log into the download area and see if they can get in ok.   That will give me more clues. 

Maybe I have to log in on even minutes or something <g>

It works for me. I just accessed the download page.

Note that my username (for the software download) is not something I made up but something that PixInsight assigned to me so it is my first initial followed by a - followed by my last name.

Oh well, I guess I'm stuck till they send me a new password combination or something.... maybe with luck I can find an old install exe on an old image... will start looking.

Same here but without the - and a "1" at the end.

Maybe I'll try adding the dash and see how that works.---- nope that didn't work either <g>.

Gurrrr,  don't find any install exe's... this is hugely frustrating.  You know sometimes companies have over secured themselves to the point of extinction.

And the password they gave you is a string of random characters?

Yes, that's correct... upper and lower case with a few numbers.  An excellent password... just doesn't work !!!

Looks like PixInsight needs to set a password reset page which send an email to a known address once someone enter a correct id.

They need to do _Something_  that's for sure.  I hate to waste a weekend of software testing a new computer.

I requested a copy of my user ID and password last week... they responded... but what they sent me doesn't work.  But yes, once they have a _working_ set... an email resend would be a good thing.
