Which format from ccdstack?
« on: 2012 July 30 17:46:16 »
I'm seeing conflicting responses to this in earlier posts. As of today, which file format imported from ccdstack is recommended for further processing in PI?
Thanks
Dave

I'm not surprised you are getting varied responses.  I have never been able to work out exactly what happens.  It seems to depend to some extent on what you have done in CCDStack. Today I found that a simple combine (either sum or median) of frames (no registration, no data rejection) works with 32 bit float, but nothing else.  Yesterday I found that if I did the full thing (registration, data rejection etc), then combining as a sum and saving as 32bit float worked, but combining as a mean in the same format didn't work.
My advice would be to do everything in PI.  Harry's calibration video works well and it's easier to use than CCDStack http://www.harrysastroshed.com/pixinsighthome.html

I used to use CCDStack to pre process, but the new PI batch processing script has made CCDStack obsolete for me.

I can do bloom rejection, standard sigma reject, reject hot/cold pixels and data reject.

If I try to calibrate or do any kind of normalization or background flattening, then PixInsight produces a horribly graining picture.

So it looks like you can do some basic math and rejection procedures in CCDStack but no calibration or scaling.  It will not even let me do CCDIS star registration.  I've tried it all and this is about it for CCDStack.

I still use it to inspect my subs and do the data rejection as per above.  I wish I know how to eliminate blooms in PI......
