Alex, you can attach images by clicking the Additional Options box.

Increasing the "ShrinkRadius" parameter should help. Shrink radius is the number of pixels that are removed from the non-zero border of the tiles, intended to remove pixels that are non-zero but also dont have the full brightness. They can be causedby aliasing.

Find it in the GradientMergeMosaic process.

turns out that the size of aligned image is different, because it had to be rotated...so the size of reference frame has to be matched, but if i do that it proceeds to combine both images, no black border this time, however the combination is incorrect..so it still puzzling....starlignement gives me correct combination with black borders, gradient combine gives incorrect combination without black borders...any suggestions and step by step detailed instructions would be much appreciated, thanks Alex

well, i think i ve sold the issue, but now turns out it will always run out of memory unless 64bit OS is used...I very much wish it would have been clearly stated in the GradientMergeMosaic description: "do not use on 32bit OS" will save people a lot of time....just a thought.....well there goes half of the day in vain...

so back to square one..how to get rid of black border as posted in the original post ?? please help :-)

thanks, Alex

Well, the 32-bit version is officially obsolete, as stated here: http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=4401.0

ok...so you are suggesting I should wipe out my computer (most of the soft and files will only work with 32bt) and install 64bt OS to continue to use the program?? or will there be still updates, modules and scripts written for 32 bt version?

Hi Alex,

please do not blame us or Juan for the problems that 32 bit windows has   >:D .

In http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=1858.msg11270#msg11270 you said you had  a fairly high spec machine with 16 GB RAM. To make good use of that RAM you need to upgrade to a 64 bit OS anyway. Currently, you are using 2-3.x GBytes at most, thanks to the 32 bit OS. And BTW: Most 32 bit windows software works fine with Win7-x64 (but not all). And since you have 2 TB of disk space, you could configure it to either boot WinXP-x86 or another OS (dual boot configuration).

yes Gerog, I have made configuration of the machine to last beyond 2-3 years (at least I hoped :-), I know 32bit has a limit of 3GB, if I can make dual boot 32/64 bit config I ll gladly do that, but I just cant risk all other data/soft and clean install 64bt windows...

but just in the meantime before I take these radical measures, can someone tell me what those black lines are as seen in the first post of this thread and if there is a tool or staralignemnt setting to avoid them?

thanks, ALex

Alex,
I am not sure about the cause of those black lines. I never had this problem with StarAlignment. My guess would be that your original frames (before alignment) also have these lines. In this case, you could get rid of them by using DynamicCrop.

If that is not the case: Maybe you could make 2 of your files with this problem available (before alignment), so someone can have a look.
