Combining Process Results
« on: 2012 May 26 02:31:05 »
OK, maybe the subject doesn't describe what I'm talking about but what I'm looking to do is combine the results of say my HST stretched image with selected parts of my same image that has HDRW applied. I know how I could selectively use data from one image and apply parts from another in PS but I'd rather do this in PI if possible. I like the results of HDRW I get with PI on the galaxy but not the artifacts I'm getting around the brighter stars, the dark halos. I don't seem to be able to control that so much by varying my masks so I think "burning" in the galaxy detail is my next best option like the good ole darkroom techniques we used in the old days ::)

Any suggestions on how to do this or am I trying to do something PI isn't intended to do?

Thanks,
Steve

A complex mask perhaps?

Hi Steve!
In this case i would use a clone of the bright version as mask on the bright version itself.
Write the name of the hdrwt version into PixelMath.
Than simply pull the triangle from Pixelmath into the bright version with rescale on.
Than 2 careful MTFs to get the same background brightness, still using the mask gets me
the dark structures into the bright version without the hdrwt artefacts.

Aloha
