PixInsight Files, Endor upgrade
« on: 2012 March 29 11:23:37 »
Hello all,

I'm glad to see that PixInsight Files is back. Am I right that this new data storage service is intended exclusively for the use of PI users? I would like to be able to supply a link for others to view selected images without needing to be a PI user and registered on the server.

Along this same line, does anyone have an opinion pro or con about astrobin.com as a site for public sharing of images?

Thanks for your comment re: AstroBin. How does PI Files fit into your data storage strategy, or does it?

Hi Dave,

That's correct. The main purpose of the PI Files service is storage of raw and processed image data for image processing challenges, seminars and workshops. It can also be used to store newly developed modules and scripts, and also to upload sample images to help us fix bugs and improve development of new tools.

PI Files is not intended to be a general store of images, or a replacement of each user's own website. AFAIK, Astrobin is a nicely implemented and efficient free service for this purpose.

Thanks, Juan. I don't know if I am to the point of needing the service yet. Trying to keep up with all that's going on with PixInsight is like trying to drink from a fire hose!  Keep up the good work.
