Always the problem--so much to do, so little time to do it in. Still, with 3.5 hours (presentation + workshop) a skilled presenter like Ron should be able to cover a lot of ground.

Hope I can make it again this year, not looking good at the moment, so much going on in October in my schedule. I'm sure Ron will do a pretty good job, I've taken a few tutorial courses with him teaching, he's good at conveying the procedures to everyone in the audience.

Geoff - great list of subjects, (same I have been trying to teach myself so far). Wish I had paid more attention the year Rogelio gave the big talk, but I was working that AIC as a vendor, caught a little of the presentation at NEAIC, but was not familar enough with it at the time, I only got interested in PI after taking Adam Block's CCDStack+/Photoshop "Making every pixel count" advanced imaging workshop at Mount Lemmon SkyCenter Observatory this past April. I'm sure hoping I can swing it this year for the PI stuff I would lern about mainly.

so i was there today and ran into one person who is also a PI user but is mainly on CN.

had to bail at 3:30. is there going to be any kind of PI meetup tomorrow?

I enjoyed Ron's talk about PI today! Although I already knew most of the `basics' that he went through, I liked his style, and it was fun to hear him describe PI in his unique way.

yes the delivery was self-deprecating about the perceived difficulty of learning PI but without being apologetic. i think though the talk would have benefitted more from a 10,000 foot view, at least at the beginning. all the details were fine with me but i hope other audience members were not overwhelmed.

i counted 50 people in the morning session and there were probably about the same # in the afternoon, so attendance was good.

I heard Ron's talk, and it was very helpful to me, someone who is fairly experienced in image processing generally, but not in PI specifically. I think that I will begin to use PI for a variety of processing steps, based in part on Ron's presentation.

Just back from AIC, and there was a fair amount of PixInsight mentioned throughout. At the closing session, Ken Crawford specifically asked that someone from PI attend next year as a vendor! Not sure if that is even a remote possibility, but it's an interesting idea anyhow.

I sat in on Ron's presentation, and thought it was OK. There was good information content, but I thought the flow was a bit jumpy and hard to follow. Also, I thought he overdid the "difficulty" angle a bit. Steve Leshin's presentation last year at AIC was more effective, in my opinion. Still, it was good to have some PI content at AIC. All that Photoshop brush painting gets tiring after a while!

sal grasso was interested in hearing about PI and sedat (the guy who won a door prize and then the photoshop license) also expressed interest in some tutorial-like work. but he was pretty busy running around. my 'problem' is that i live in the area and so i kind of have to get back to my family. this does not lend itself well to late-evening BS sessions.

one thing that bothered me a lot is that this really big dude made a very negative comment about PI when ken made that announcement to the whole group. i don't know what his beef is, but it was kind of defamatory and un-necessary.

That's interesting, I must have been sitting in the wrong place to hear the comment. I was glad to hear Ken announce his interest in more PI representation at the conference, though.

The idea of some sort of `PI enthusiasts' meet up makes sense, we might be able to help each other up the learning curve. Maybe even something really informal... now I'm sorry that on Saturday I didn't stand up at the end of the talks and say something like `Anyone who wants to pull out their laptops and share PI knowledge or questions, let's go find some power outlets!' That would have been a bit silly, but it might have been interesting to see what could have happened.
