Sample PixInsight LRGB Workflow
« on: 2012 February 20 16:44:21 »
I've documented my PI LRGB workflow in some detail, and posted it on my website: www.drakevisual.com/lrgb-processing. It's text only at this point, but I'll expand it and add some screen shots as I get the time. I hope you find it useful, and as always I welcome comments and suggestions.

Hi Sean,

I've read your tutorials on deconvolution and LRGB workflow. Nice work!

That old tutorial on deconvolution is completely outdated and obsolete. I am glad you still can find something useful in it though. When I wrote it (some thousands years ago) everything was different and we lacked a lot of resources. Now we are stronger and know more things, some of them important :)

Hi,

I took a quick look to your LRGB tutorial. More or less I follow the same path, the only major difference is that I use pixelmath to create my master RGB image instead of the LRGB tool as you stated in step 2 of 'RGB Processing'

Thanks for the document.

Cheers,

Jose

Winch, don't panic! I recommend you watch Vicent Peris' workflow -- it's pretty similar in the broad strokes to this one, just without the linear noise reduction. I learned a ton from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqhLKIjGMXA&feature=related  (2 parts)

Of course, Harry's videos are also great for learning about specific tools: http://www.harrysastroshed.com/pixinsighthome.html

Sean, I was wondering about your use of MMT instead of Atrous for noise reduction. Is it just a preference or do you have reasons for doing it that way? I made a major leap from non-linear ACDNR to linear ATWT noise handling when Harry posted his video on it, and the results have been wonderful for my data. I'll look into MMT if it's a significantly different option.

Winch,

I'll repeat what jlake has said - check out Harry's videos as a good starting point - that's how I learned my way around. Also, Vicent's workflow video is very good, and I do follow the same general path. I have tried to add more detail about some of the decision points than Vicent had time for in the video. When I get a chance, I'll add some screenshots to my workflow.

Jlake,

I've also used Atrous with good success, but have recently started using MMT more often. I feel like I have a little greater control over the noise reduction, but it could also be a result of the kinds of images I've been working on lately. If I get a chance, I'll try to do a direct comparison between the 2 on the same image.

Thanks for the comments,

Sean

can you tell why you use Pixel Math instead of the LRGB Tool?
