Toolbars disappearing/reappearing across launches/exits

Hi,

I want to report a problem where toolbars (top and bottom) are disappearing and reappearing across PixInsight launches and exits when using projects.

PixInsight 01.07.05.0779 Starbuck (eng x86_64) running in Windows 7 on MacBook Air with BootCamp.

1) Launch PixInsight, toolbars (top and bottom) are visible.
2) Load project, toolbars (top and bottom) are visible.
3) Exit PixInsight.
4) Launch PixInsight, toolbars (top and bottom) are not visible!
5) Exit PixInsight.
6) Launch PixInsight, toolbars (top and bottom) are visible!

It seems like exiting PixInsight when a project has been loaded causes toolbars to disappear on the next launch, even though the toolbars are visible with the loaded project. Exiting and relaunching PixInsight solves the problem.

This problem is reproducible and occurs with several different projects.

Hi Mike,

I can't reproduce this problem on Windows 7 x64. Following your steps, tool bars are always visible unless I explicitly hide them (Ctr+Alt+B). Could you upload a small project reproducing this problem?

Hi Juan,

I can no longer reproduce the problem. It may be that running "Reset PixInsight Settings" (which I ran while investigating other topics) resolved the problem.

Sorry to resurrect such an old post, but I have consistently had this kind of issue with toolbars across multiple versions now.  I am now running the lasest 1.8 release.  This has been installed in its own directory on Windows 7 64 bit.  There is also 1.8RC7 installed in a different directory.

- I start PI and I have the (probably) default set of toolbars enabled.
- I enable all the toolbars and arrange them to my satisfaction.  Exit PI.
- Restart PI and we're back to the default set in their original arrangement.  Exit PI.
- Restart PI again and I now have all toolbars visible in the arrangement I wanted. Exit PI.
- Restart again, back to the default set/arrangement.
- Repeat ad-infinitum.

It seems to me that PI is alternating between two different settings for menu bars.  Other things like the set of explorer bars (at the left side) remain however I set them when I exit and don't alternate in the same way.  (I am not running the old RC7 version at any point either).

Looking at the process console, the modules, the pjsr-core-defs.js and the startup.scp are all running from the correct 1.8 directory each time.

Where are the PI toolbar settings stored on Windows - in the program folder or somewhere under users?  This is most perplexing.

Hi Ian,
I think this is not a bug (at least in linux). The toolbars that you have set as default are in the first instance of PI. When you close PI and open it again, you are opening a second instance of PI where you have not set your favorite toolbars yet. PI should be named as PixInsight 1.8 (2).
That happens because it takes same time to close de first instance of PI and when you click again PI sees another instance running, and opens a second one. Just try waiting a little more before opening it.
You can also set your favofite toolbars in the second instance.

Thanks Alejandro, that does seem to clear it up.  I guess the process must still be running in the background for a short while after the main window has disappeared.  I'll be a bit more patient next time I need to restart the application!

I have this problem a long time ago and reported it here, but no response yet.

Juan:  If this is feature, is it possible to add some checkbox in system settings, to allow share settings across all instances of PI. I have no patience to remove zoom toolbar and add geometry toolbar every time I run PI.
