Masks are sometimes invisible
« on: 2012 January 03 15:20:57 »
Hi:

Since I started a new project yesterday, I've discovered that masks sometimes behave as if they are invisible, and sometimes behave correctly.

It generally seems that the first time I apply a mask as part of a workflow, it works as expected, e.g. the mask protects the selected region of the image from being sharpened, as intended. But if soon thereafter I re-do exactly the same workflow, the same mask fails to protect the region against the same process. In fact, when the mask appears to fail, I can repeat the same process with and without the mask in place, and PixelMath finds no difference, pixel by pixel. I've tried this several times, to check (as best I can!) that I'm not doing something goofy :footinmouth:.

I have not yet installed the new release of PixInsight, but the last project I completed, just a few days ago, worked fine :). I did try a Cntrl backdoor reset, and the problem was still there :'(.

Perhaps time to install the new release? Thanks for any comments, just in case the problem doesn't go away ;D.

Howard.

look down in the status bar and see if it says "Masked (disabled)". i've made that mistake before - that "(disabled)" is the only indication that the mask has been disabled...

Hi pfile:

Oops, this is embarrassing :-[. I must have been clicking on the enable/disable mask button without realizing it - such a noob! Many thanks for setting me straight so quickly, and regrets for the needless bug report :o.

no prob, actually i think that it should be more obvious when the mask is disabled. also it would be nice to know what image is the current mask. sometimes i have so many masks going i forget which is currently in use.
