New Reference Documentation Released: StarAlignment
« on: 2011 December 21 08:23:41 »
Hi there!

The official reference documentation for the StarAlignment tool is now available online:

http://pixinsight.com/doc/tools/StarAlignment/StarAlignment.html

It will also be available as an update to the PixInsight application today.

As happens with ImageIntegration, I have tried to document this fundamental tool in a particularly exhaustive way. The intent is that our users really understand how these tools work and why they are much better than other options available. We want you to know that the PixInsight project is very different from other applications in its goals and design principles, as well as in our philosophy of software development.

Hope you like it. Enjoy, and happy Christmas to everybody!

Juan,
Very detailed and way over my pay grade.
Thanks a million.

Your comment ----

It will also be available as an update to the PixInsight application today.

My PI has not notified me of an update since Dec 11.  Has there been a delay in releasing this to the application?

Mark

Thanks so much for such a detailed documentation.

Silly question - since the StarAlignment tool appears so powerful, I'm wondering in what situations you'd need to use the DynamicAlignment tool?  I had assumed for rotated or different scaled images, but from my brief skim through this doc, it would appear SA does that with the right settings?

Hi

DA can manage very large scale differances also if your image has large distortions DA handles this better then SA

I'm wondering if you've any plans, or even given thought to an astrometric alignment option, similar to what's available in MaxIm DL.  Since I'm already plate-solving the images in the image acquisition process at a very low computational cost (since I know the CCD detector pixel size, focal length and approximate RA and DEC from the telescope mount), it would seem this could be leveraged in the StarAlignment process.  This might be of increasing benefit for composing mosaics?

Hi, thanks a lot for this Documentation Release!

Should it be delivered via usual automatic update?
It hasn't happened for me with PixInsight Core for Windows (x86_64 - 64-bit), Core version 01.07.00.0702 (commercial).

All the best and Happy New Year!
