Can't post msgs to forum using Internet Explorer 9
« on: 2011 October 05 09:08:57 »
When i try to submit a post from IE9, i get the message that the post timed out (immediately) and to try again. It works from IE8.

I tried to send a note using the "contact PI" form from the home page, but when i submit, i get the message that the browser is too old and not supported. Again IE9, not old.

I am writing this with IE9. No problem here. I dont know if I ever activated Compatibility View for this website (torn sheet of paper besides the refresh icon in the adress bar), but I remember that I had problems as some point that were fixed with this icon.

I did try the compatibility icon - first without, then with. But it made no difference. I tried several times during the morning having even shutdown the PC inbetween. When the home contact also failed, then i went to an older PC and sent the msg above.

But, since i am posting this now, the problem seems to have gone away. Oh Well - sigh.

Hi,

Indeed the contact form has not been working for a few days, due to incorrect permissions of the /cgi-bin/FormMail.pl script. Thanks for pointing this out, and sorry for the inconvenience. This is now fixed and working normally.

On the IE9 issue, if a message is displayed saying that you are using IE 6 or IE 7, then that's because your browser has been set to emulate one of these versions. IE8+ is required by our website since its latest revision. We don't support IE6 since a couple of years, and no longer support IE7 either since one month or so. IE8 is the first version of IE that has a reasonably low number of bugs and an acceptable support of web standards. With IE9 working as IE9, there should be no problems at all. Please let me know otherwise and I'll fix them.
