Combining differently binned images
« on: 2011 September 29 16:26:52 »
Hi all,

Just some short questions:

I have gathered some Data of NGC 6888 during the last few weeks...

Onfortunately my time is restricted but I want to begin processing ( some kind of PI  drugged >:D )
I have just problems with my Ha channel, i collected some 5 takes of 600 secs binned once and by mistake 6 takes of 900 secs binned twice.

1. Does it work to effectively combine them?
2. Does it make sense?
3. If yes, should i follow the usual way of registration and integration?

So that's it...

Hope you guys can help me out of this...

Thanks in advance!

Cheers

Lex

it should be okay to integrate them all together, but first you will have to scale the 2x2 binned images. if i remember correctly, StarAlignment will take care of this for you. of course if you make the reference image one of the bin 1x1 images, then the 2x2 binned images are going to get scaled up and there will be a loss of resolution compared with the 1x1 binned images...

Pfile,

Hi, thanks for your answer!
Okay, so if i want to avoid some resolution drop i should ideally declare a bin 2x2 image as reference..

In deed that's logical; after you told me  ^-^

Thanks again for experience sharing!!!

Cheers

are you going to use the Ha as the red channel in the result of a LRGB style image?

usually people will do bin 1x1 for the luminance and make that as sharp as possible, and do bin 2x2 or more for the color channels. the loss of resolution in the RGB channels does not affect the result too much since they are used merely to color the luminance, if that makes sense.

You are right, i will use the Ha mainly as Luminance, perhaps include some in the red channel.
Thank you for your help, appreciate!

Best
