Sadr Region 9 panel mosaic
« on: 2011 September 27 14:50:11 »
Hi,

I started this project a mouth ago or so, and yesterday I finally manage to process the last panels. I used the new GradientMergeMosaic to stitch the panels. It worked great.

This is  a 9 panel mosaic. The lights were captured with a mini borg 60mm @ 3.8 with a Baader Ha filter and a QHY9M.

The total number of frames is 64 x 20min or 21h20m.

This is what I did:

-- Calibrate each panel
-- DBE each panel
-- Create 3 super panels using GradientMergeMosaic
-- Crop each super panel (DynamicCrop)
-- Stitch the 3 super panels using GradientMergeMosaic
-- Crop the final panel (DynamicCrop)
-- Histogram adjustment (HistogramTool)
-- HDRWaveletTransform layer 7, 3 iterations
-- Histogram adjustment (HistogramTool)
-- Soft Star reduction using a starmask an morphological transform
-- Noise reduction using ATrousWaveletTransform on 1st layer 1 iteration

Is not hard to do it. Why you don't give it a try? A 1x2 panels mosaic or 2x2 is easy to achieve and the processing is very forgiving (ones you properly flatten the panels)

Jose

The focal length of my miniborg is 230mm.

The main problems with wide fields mosaics are:

-- Gradients
-- Panel rotations. The closer to the celestial poles the worst it gets.

Jose

Georg,

Thanks for the tool. It worked great.

One issue that I found (and you are already aware of it) it that the tool creates some artifacts when stitching linear data. To workaround this I had to stretch a little bit the panels before feeding them to your tool.

Cheers,

Jose
