We already have done some remote sessions on Mac OS X with TeamViewer.

I am having the same issue on my macbook pro laptop, OSX 10.7.3 running on dual core 2.8 GHz i7 with 8GB RAM.

PI 01.07.04.0759 starbuck.

I don't know enough about PI or OSx to find any crash dumps but if you tell me where to look I will find and post for you..

I am running the core app from my desktop, permissions on both the desktop and application itself indicate that I have read & write permissions.

I had the same issue when running the trial version.

I have fixed this issue on my Mac.  The solution was a bit of a pig and derives from the history of this machine.
In short when I got this MAC I transfered files and setting across from an older Mac that I had, something in that process created spurious ACL permissions all over the system.   I have used tinker tools system to look at the permissions on my machine, I found that in some folders there were ACLs expressly DENYing access to EVERYONE!  Further more ownership of files and folders were not propagating down to applications as one of the ACLs was damaged.

In the end I used tinker tools system to remove all ACL permissions from my applications folder and then replaced myself as owner of the applications folder.

It must be said that looking at the permissions under "get info" did not give a hint of any of these issues so I recommend that anyone having this issue uses Tinker Tools System to check their permissions throughly it is free in evaluation mode for 5 application launches which is more than enough to sort out this issue.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ian,

Glad to know it's working now. I'm going to make this topic sticky, so other Mac users can be aware of your recommendations.

One question though. Couldn't this be made even simpler with a few console commands? For example:

cd /Applications/PixInsight64.app
sudo chmod -R 755 *

For those that are familiar with command line in OSX I'm sure it would!   I am not so I needed to use a gui which presented the information in a way I could actually understand!   I have to say I am massively unimpressed with Apple for causing this issue, but it is to my mind obvious that it is an Apple problem not[/u] a PI one..

Juan - just to add my two cents, I am having the same issue with repeated requests to download and install updates.  I reset the ACL permissions in the Home folder (and fixed permissions globally) however I still receive the repeated requests to download and install the updates (as well as the fairly routine crashes upon exiting the application).  Out of curiosity, I did a screen capture of the modules to be downloaded/updated, and then compared that against what is currently installed in v1.8.  Well, it seems they HAVE all installed and updated just fine - that is, the listed versions in "Manage Modules" matches those shown in the "Available Downloads" - but the requests continue.  At least at this point it seems I can confidentially just hit "cancel" when asked to update these same items.

Never mind - I didn't see the separate thread on this until later.  For some reason though, trashing the "updates.xri" file doesn't fix the update notifications for me.

Hi

I am experiencing the same problem with two sets of updates. Pi asks if I want them, I download, close PI, Pi tells me its installing updates. Open PI and it ask if I want to install the same updates?

Hi

I have been through many permutations of 'permissions' to try and alleviate this problem, now I see:

2013-01-08 14:13:26 : *** Error: Cannot chmod target file: /Applications/PixInsight.app/Contents/MacOS/Debayer-pxm.dylib
2013-01-08 14:13:26 : End updater1: ERROR

The weird thing I cannot log in as a super user in the terminal window to chmod?

Regards

Julian

I ran 1.8 on my laptop running OSX 10.8.2 and get the same loop with the updates!

Have I missed something here, is this still an issue for other users?

Julian

same loop here :-(

PI 1.8
MBP 2.6 GHz quad i7 Lion
...but NOT on the MPro 8core xeon w Snow Leopard

hope this helps

UPDATE
I copied the app to the desktop but it didn't solve the problem.
I opened the app folder and put the permissions r/w for every voice and applied to the items inside the folder as well ..but no joy

2nd update
I ctrl started the app in order to reset the prefs without success
Manually trashed the prefs and trashed a file named "com.pleiades-astrophoto.PixInsight.plist.lockfile" ...whatever it was

I have 2 update notifications. The 1st is a 6 items and the 2nd 1 item.
If I don't download the second update PI seems to update fine, if I download the second update it loops.

Here is a pic with the sequence ...trying to help :-)

Yes,  I made a post on this problem (check in bug section)

Juan told he found the problem and will be corrected in RC2

You can "fix" this problem by erase update.xri  file and lauch PI. It will detect all update and will install them in 1 time.

Excuse my dumb question, where can you find the offending file?
