Report of Image Abuse
« on: 2011 August 17 04:51:44 »
The site at the following URL:

http://universe-beauty.com/Space-photos/Hubble/Ring-Nebula-Deep-Field-10019p.html

Is using an image without the required credits and authorization. The original image was acquired and processed by an international team led by Vicent Peris and was APOD on November 6th 2009. It belongs to PixInsight's Image Gallery:

http://pixinsight.com/gallery/M57-CAHA/en.html

And here is a document with extensive processing notes:

http://pixinsight.com/examples/M57-CAHA/en.html

From the information given on that page, the image is being presented as a 'Hubble image'. I've been informed that the page has been commented on Cloudy Nights forums. I cannot post on other forums, so please if someone is reading this and is a CN user, I'd appreciate if you could post this information there.

I have posted a comment with this information on the page in question. However, when you click the link 'Report issue within an image' and fill in the required data, the 'Send' button doesn't work... oh well.

I posted a message. If I don't see a response soon I'll report it to the moderators.

WTF???

Loking at the page, I noticed the two images on the right of that one were mine and are also introduced as "Hubble Images". Browsing through the "catalog" I saw at least 5 other of my images, none of them properly credited. I also saw at least 10 other images that I recognized from other friends, again credited as Hubble images, and I only browsed for a bit. I could be wrong, but my guess is they're fetching all APOD images, credit them as Hubble, and collect their Google adSense check every month. This is not a single case of image abuse, it's complete disregard for other people's work in a larger scale.

WTF, indeed. I see several of my images there as well.

BTW Juan, your comment did get posted, it's beneath the picture credits.

Perhaps time to send an email to APOD and see if they can make more noise than we can.
