Hi, I had no problem installing recent updates from July 21 and later (new automatic method in v1.7) on my Win7 64bit machine (actually you have to do it twice because PI never told me about the second set of updates containing DynamicPSF and SelectionRange tools so it wasn't quite automatic) but updates will not install at all on my Dell laptop with the XP version of PI 1.7:
PI 1.7...0697 informs me there are 6 updates which I then download successfully and exit the program. However, when the program automatically restarts to install them and I choose the "current user" as the account that the program is run from, I get an error message saying that the installation failed with no other information. The log is blank. When I choose the administrator account for the machine instead that is offered as the alternative account and supply its password, then I get the following error message (although I was still logged in as myself; i.e., the account I use to run PI):
Unable to open file: C:/Documents and Settings/jweiss/Local Settings/Temp/PixInsight32-update/contents/updater1.log: Win32 error (32): The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
The second response seems similar to problems I had previously (which required a bug fix, I believe) at
http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=2699.msg18560#msg18560but this has reappeared with the new v1.7 automatic updating.
Please tell me what I need to do to get installation working with v1.7 x86 for XP.
Thank you.
Jeff
