Post processing in Photoshop
« on: 2011 May 23 07:28:08 »
Hello,

this is my first post having only used Pixinsight for a month. Previous to that I have used Photoshop CS5. I'm encouraged by the results I am achieving with Pixinsight but occasionally   I like to clean up stray pixels in Photoshop. The problem I have is this, I save the image to a Tiff file in Pixinsight then open in CS5 which completely degrades the result and offers a HDR screen to modify the image. I am presuming there is an issue with colour management between the two platforms. Can anybody point me towards an answer to this problem? My screen is calibrated at regular intervals.

In anticipation, many thanks

John B

Hi John

Which is the bit depth of the tiff files you are using?

Carlos - they are starting out at 32, but  when in CS5, given the problems I have converted to 16 and 8 to see what happens and also open up the complete functions of CS5. 32  bit mode restricts CS5.  Am getting ahead of myself, should I convert the bit depth in Pixinsight?

Thanks for your interest

Hi John,

In PI, I work with 32 bit fits FP images. At any point if I want to open an image in PS I just save it as a 16 bit Tiff and it opens in PS without problems.

Save the TIFF as 16 bit int in PixInsight.
It'll open fine in Photoshop.

Do save a 32 bit copy too, even if just for archiving purposes.

Steve and Rogelio already answered very well. Don't use 32 or 64 bit images in PS. It will interpret them as HDR images, and try to compress them to 16bits. Also, take into consideration that PS uses signed 16bits integer samples, but they store the data using only the positive part, so you end using only 15bits.
