Harry

Do you have plans to cover Atrous wavelet transform / convolution / deconvolution, your videos are really good and you have a really good way of putting across complicated subject matter.

Hi Harry:

Your videos also got me off to the races. Bite sized, crystal clear, and covering alot of ground, they bust through the PixInsight learning barrier :). Many thanks for that!

The colors in the M106 image are gorgeous.

Best regards,
Howard.

Hi Harry,

As always, your fine tutorials are very much appreciated. On this one, I wanted to look at Vicent's description of this method. Can you tell me where to find it. I have seen his tutorial on the PI site but that is really quite general and specific formulas are not included.

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks Harry.

BTW, I have tried the method as described in your tutorial and it works beautifully. Galaxy and star color preserved with Ha areas enhanced. Appears that the amount of enhancement is controlled by the multiplication factor in formula #2.

I did look at the thread you just referenced and noted that Vicent was perhaps 1 or 2 paragraphs short of completing what would have been good documentation of this method. I really appreciate that you took the time to complete the job, and rather elegantly I might add.

Hi Steve

I am glad you found it worked well I was very pleased the method  :)

As you say the enhancement is controlled by multiplication factor in formula 2 and is of course subject to the quality of your Ha  ;D

I am looking forward to getting some more data so I can play more with this method  8)

Hi Harry:

I've been processing LRGBHa exposures of the Bubble Nebula following your very clear workflow for Vicent's technique of blending the Ha into the R, whilst minimizing the added noise from the Ha.

I wonder if I goofed in retrospect to shoot the Ha frames binned 2x2 (and likewise for the RGB), with the L unbinned? I thought to copy the usual procedure of upsampling the "colour" channels into the higher resolution L. However, there is so much rich texture in the Ha, which does not appear to have been adequately captured in the unbinned L (though I'm a bit mystified as to why that should be, since the L ought to capture everything - maybe I've not adequately processed the L?).

Any suggestions for how best to adapt the workflow to LRGBHa, rather than RGBHa?

I'd also appreciate to hear any comments on whether to reshoot the Ha unbinned, and what might be the best relative exposure times and resolutions in Ha and R.

Many thanks,
Howard.
