HDRWavelets - preview vs. full image
« on: 2011 March 20 12:41:08 »

if i make a preview of an object and tweak the HDRWavelets to my liking, then go back to the full image and apply the same settings, the behavior in the area of interest is very different. i thought maybe it had to do with the automatic midtones balance, so i figured out a good manual one for just the preview, but the result is the same.

cant figure out if this difference in behavior is simply due to the process running over the range of brightnesses in the whole image vs just the preview, or what. maybe it's normal. target image masked or unmasked seems to make no difference.

do i need a different scaling function for the whole image?

left is a clone of the HDRWavelet process run on a preview. right is the preview after applying the HDRWavelet process to the whole image.

Hi

This is a old one  ;)

HDR wavlets does not work well with small previews and it works on the entire image  >:D

I just apply it to the whole image as it does not take that long or create a preview of the whole image

sorry, should have searched

i guess my point is i would like to achieve results like the preview on the entire image. is it impossible or just a matter of exploring the space of possible settings? i should say that i was doing HDRWavelets followed by a LocalHistogram and was getting reasonable results, but i would like to strive for what i see in the HDRWavelets against the preview alone.
