beginner problems
« on: 2011 February 25 12:39:15 »
Hello,

my current workflow uses MaximDL to calibrate and stack the frames and Photoshop for further processing.
Pixinsight is often used to remove gradients with the nice tools ABE/DBE and to reduce noise with ACDNR.

When I try to process the images after stacking entirely in Pixinsight I have some problems:

ChannelCombination does not allow to combine the color channels with some weighting.
In order to push especially the blue channel a little bit, I have combined the colors to the RGB in MaximDL.
The resulting RGB-Fits is displayed in Pixinsight in gray with a 'masking' pattern.
A RGB-Tiff is displayed correctly.

After processing luminanceL and RGB with HistogramTransformation ...... I have extracted CIE L from the RGB with
ChannelExtraction and then tried LinearFit on the luminance using CIE L as a reference. After this the Luminance
and the resulting LRGB after LRGBCombination appears to 'washed' out.

What is wrong here?

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards

Kai

its hard to say exactly, but it sounds like your fits file is not debayered?

Debayering removes the mask ... but does not show correct colors.

what kind of camera is it? when you debayered the image did you choose the right bayer matrix option for your camera?

Kai,

After combining the R,G, and B channels in PI with 1:1:1 weighting, the color appears off because the background needs to be neutralized. So, try this on the PI generated RGB image. Do DBE first to remove any gradient before neutralizing the background. Then do Background Neutralization which should give you an image that looks close to correct color. Finally do Color Calibration. Color may appear a little washed out so increasing the color saturation at some point will help.

maybe at this point posting some thumbnails and some 1:1 crops would be helpful...

Hello,

thank you for your help! OK, I switched to channel combination in Pixinsight with 1:1:1 weight and removed gradients with DBE followed by BackgroundNeutralization. ColorCalibration, however, reintroduced a severe color (green) cast. My image (NGC2264) has widespread faint H alpha signal and very few background. What can I select as a white reference?
