NGC 6914 processing notes
« on: 2011 January 13 16:27:41 »
Hi all,

this is to say that some days ago we put some processing notes on our NGC 6914 in the processing examples section of PixInsight's website. Here is the link:

http://pixinsight.com/examples/NGC6914-CAHA/en.html

I describe here some techniques that link data acquisition and processing. For example, I describe the observational techniques to supress blooming, or to correct residual gradients to make a better mosaic assembly.

This article is only a summary of the employed techniques. I will describe deeply some of them in the near future.

Hope you find interesting this article.
Best regards,
Vicent.

what is this i don't even

you guys are geniuses. the multiscale integration process for dust motes is incredible. i have some images of the B33/IC434 area where not only is there bad blooming, but internal reflections around the stars. i might be able to use that technique to recover this data (but first i'll have to re-shoot at 90 degrees to tackle the blooming...)

Hi,

I think that, specially for square sensors, this technique is quite good, and can be fully automated. :) Alternatively, for blooming supression, you can do an HDR with shorter exposures... but this way you need some more observation time.

I always liked square sensors. You can fully concentrate on the image without the visual interference of the aspect ratio. :)

Best regards,
Vicent.

What just happened in there (processing notes from 6914) is just waaaaaaaaay above my head right now, Vincent!

Was the MultiScale Processing Method for Dust Motes the one you were working on a few months ago? (you asked for my M31 fits)

Hi Vicent,

impressive work...

I think what you do in Step 4 "Mosaic Assembly (II): Panel Adaptation" is not unlike what the script in http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=2124.msg13762#msg13762 does. I like the script frame adaption procedure because it is more or less automatic, and because the adaption is "optimal" in a certain mathematical sense. Currently, the script works for 8 bit/channel images only, so it is not yet ready for show time...

Yes. In fact, I designed this technique before knowing anything about this algorithm, when I started the work on the CAHA's NGC7000 one and a half year ago. This 4x4 mosaic was assembled in the same way as NGC6914.
I think the only fault of the algorithm you say is that is doesn't stablished control point over the panels with the normalization value. Could this be implemented in your script? Also, could we choose between an additive or a multiplicative correction?

V.

Muchas Gracias Vicent.

Este tipo de artículos amplían profundamente mis conocimientos sobre procesamiento de imágenes...

Ahora estoy buscando varías imágenes que dí por perdidas que seguramente se podrán recuperar con algunas de tus ideas!

Saludos,
