PixInsight 1.6.9 Now Available

Hi everybody,

A new version of PixInsight is now available for all supported platforms: 1.6.9.644 for FreeBSD, Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

This version is an important milestone in the history of PixInsight due to a significant new feature: the PixInsight Update System. Along with this essential feature, PixInsight 1.6.9 includes an integration of the PixInsight Reference Documentation, better system integration on all supported platforms, new multiplatform PCL distributions, new and improved tools, and many bug fixes, stability and security enhancements. We encourage all our users to update their current installations as soon as possible.

I'm not seeing any PCL packages on the dist site yet. Will they be uploaded later? Am I missing something?

Hi Sander,

Sorry I forgot to mention the new PCL distribution package (it's a bit late here and I'm a bit tired too ). It is freely available for download here:

From now on there's a single PCL package including PCL libraries for all supported platforms. The PCL and the Core app. are no longer packed together.

Tomorrow I'll post much more descriptions and explanations of everything. For now, I'm going to bed right now. Power off!

sorry, I didn't get that part. The dist site still says there are both PCL and PI packages so that confused me

I will install .9 and PCL separately. I've been away from AP for a few months as we remodeled our kitchen but I'm attempting to get back into it. A new PI version is a great way to start Sleep well.

There was an installer (Windows 64-bit) for for the PCL before, no? All I see is the zipped tarball.

Hi Juan. Thanks - big effort.

Linux 64 bit is very fast and working fine, much more responsive than 1.6.1. Very nice. except that there are no icons alongside text in the menus. Also, how do I get that 1.6.1 interface look & feel back? It had a very tight appearance.

just downloaded, installed the last version (1.6.9); regularly, at the first run it asked for downloading and installation of documentation; it seem to download, it asks for restart.
But after restarting installation fails. (3 retries, I installed also PCL to be sure).
I've attached a screenshot; hoping for an hint...

P.S. Other elements; updater tries to download the file in the dir "C:\Documents and Settings\Federico\temp\PixInsight32-update\update.pixinsight.com"; but download fails (error window not always visible, but one times or two i've seen it). I noted that updater fails to create the correct "temp" subpath (PixInsight32-update\update.pixinsight.com). I've tried to create it by hand; but download or install or both failed again.
Updater log is empty. Is there any other log to see?
P.P.S. I've downloaded by hand, unpacked in "doc" directory, and now documentation is visible...but nothing to do with updater.

Just downloaded the new 1.6.9 and on MacOSX 64Bit, it is super fast!   8)
Found updates, downloaded and installed. No problems!

Have I to uninstall completaly, then reinstall 1.6.9?
That distinction between Core and PCL is a bit confusing to me; I've to honestly add that I'm not able to do anything with PCL at the moment...but I'm a programmer so, perhaps, in the future....what have I to do?

Yes. But to get PI work properly i done it 2 times (uninstall > Install to default dir > uninstall > Install to default dir). I don't know why 2 times...

"Programmi"... May be that is problem, because default is "Program Files"

Thank you a lot. "Programmi" is the default for Windows in Italian version.OK. Now I uninstalla again - two times - then reinstall in Program Files directory (I have it also). But what to do with the unability to find scripts? (see below).

....And now it isn't able to find scripts. It searches them in C:\PCL instead of C:\Programmi\PixInsight\src\scripts. Where can I set the correct path? It isn't in Global References, where the heck is it? I've to say that this uninstall procedure doesn't work at all...

scripts not running - they are searched in C:\PCL that doesn't exist any more.
