HDRWavelets problem
« on: 2010 November 19 12:30:05 »
I'm currently processing an LRGB image of the Rosette nebula

I use a preview to fine tune the HDRWavelets settings and then apply to the whole image. The effect on the image isnt not the same as that in the preview -  asort of diluted effect.

I can load the FITS to my ftp site if required

Hi Nigel,

I'm sorry, but for now HDRWT is one of the tools that is not completely "previewable". When trying to preview the effect of HDRWT, use a preview that includes as much information as possible: covering the whole dynamic range, and areas with small and large structures.

I have some ideas to make this process previewable, but it's not implemented yet.

Best regards,
Vicent.

Thanks Vicent

No problem I have a fairly beefy machine so running on the image is not that bad

I have some ideas to make this process previewable, but it's not implemented yet.

Without giving it much thought, executing the HDRWT internally on the data from the "mother" image and displaying in the preview window only the section corresponding to the preview seems that it would do the job.
??
While the "speed" factor of previews wouldn't be an advantage in this case, all other aspects of using a preview would still be there AFAIK (no need to undo to try different parameters, the main image not being altered, etc).
I do not know the implications from a code perspective or of I'm missing something here...

Apologies gentlemen but I'm still having problems with HDRWavelets on my Rosette image

HDRWavelets has worked fine on all my other images and has always affected the full image in the same way and degree as the preview

This image is different in some way or maybe I'm doing something daft?

I fine tune the HDRW settings on the Preview and then apply to the whole image. As can be seen from the composite screenshot below the effect is as expected on the preview but negligible on the whole image

Hi Nigel

Are you sure that the image and the preview are of the same size? No weird line left out? It may be just a rescale problem. Try adjusting the Midtones (with Histogram) to see if you can get the same result.

Carlos

The right hand image is a close up of the main image so you can see no effect

Hi

That image you have provided looks like a crop of your image perhaps this is part of the problem , I do not bother with previews on images like this when the subject matter fills most of the view and just apply straight to the image , a quick redo undo will fine tune the setting  ;D

Hi Nigel,

I'm not sure what's happening. Your preview covers the whole image?

Could you upload the image to give it a try?

Regards,
Vicent.
