Image Orientation?
« on: 2010 August 25 00:53:48 »
Why are my imported images appearing reversed vertically?

I am using a QSI583 CCD camera and opening the raw FITS downloaded using Maxim DL. I have to execute Vertical Mirror flip in PI to correct.

The same images open correctly in 'other' programmes .....

In my experience, the 'common' or 'standard' convention is to store FITS data such that images have their (0,0) origin at the 'bottom-left' of the image - however, this is more of a 'convention' than a rigidly enforced requirement.

That said, it does annoy me that some software - including 'expensive' or 'high-end' software packages do not follow the convention, or do not provide a means of allowing the user to decide. Fortunately, PI does not fall into that category, which at least allows users to make up for the shortfalls of the other packages!!

Gawd, I'm sure this has been affecting me too with my QHY9 in Maxim.  I thought I must be going potty in my old age reversing orientation somewhere during processing.  Will give this a try.

Yes, thanks all!
