Dynamic Crop Process window 'invisible'
« on: 2010 April 11 16:33:39 »
Hi all,

Just to let you all know that Alex, next door, had a strange situation whereby he was totally unable to 'see' the DynamicCrop user interface. He could 'draw' the cropping window on an image, and even 'execute' the crop by pressing <ENTER> - he just could not 'find' the UI anywhere, and could not therefore close it down.

It was a strange one - and it was a TOTAL FACTORY RESET that finally cured the problem.

I am therefore going to stringly suggest that v1.6.x is sufficiently different from v1.5.x to make it ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY that you perform a full reset if you are encountering any strange effects. Losing all of your carefully honed settings might be a small price to pay to get v1.6.x up and running.

Perhaps there is a possibility that future 'major' upgrades will ALWAYS start up with a FULL RESET (which would NOT be an 'option'), but that there would then be a means of importing key user-defined configurations 'into' the new, clean, setup?

Cheers,
Cheers,

Hi Niall,

Then the people would complain precisely about that. I've made efforts in version 1.6.0 to avoid the necessity of a full reset. It seems I haven't had too much success, though :)

Version 1.6.1, which is being cooked right now, will hopefully remove all of these glitches ...

Hi Juan,

I think the requirement for a FULL RESET should be 'advised' when users are upgrading to a 'major' revision - such as was the case with v1.6.0.

For example, I doubt whether it will prove necessary on the change to v1.6.1

Maybe in your 'How to Upgrade' documentation you should add a paragraph suggesting that users first try 'without' a Reset - but if the system seems at all unstable, then a Full Reset should be their next course of action.

In any case, I have now done a Full Reset and (perhaps tomorrow evening) I will now try a full calibration run (I still have to sort all my data, pre PixInsight, in AIP4WIN - where I still rely on their "Series Analysis" tool to show me full statistics for a series of images, and then I graph those results in MS Excel to decide if any individual images, themselves, are 'Gross Outliers' that need to be excluded from ALL further processing)

And, yes, that last sentence was a 'subliminal hint' to ask for the same, but better, functionality in PI ::)

Thanks for all your hard work again, Juan.
