PI fails to open window
« on: 2010 March 07 18:35:32 »
I'm not sure if this is a PI problem or a Windows 7 problem, but I'll pose the question anyway.

I started PI as I normally would, except that its window fails to appear. When I look in Process Explorer I see its process, but again, I can't interact with it other than to "kill" it. There is a context menu but the "Window --> Bring to Front" is greyed out. I looked in the Event Viewer but see nothing "strange."

I have W7U 64-bit running on an i7-860 with 8GB RAM and the latest PI 64-bit.

 ???

Hi Star Dog,

I am using the same OS/Hardware without problem. No idea what goes wrong in your case.

Hi Louis,

This is a really weird problem. PixInsight should run like a missile on that hardware.

Can you give me more specific information about your hardware/software? What's your video card, your video card's driver version, and what antivirus/firewall software are you using?

Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, 1792MB, driver version 195.62
Antivirus/firewall: ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 9.1.008.000
Disks: Intel SSDSA2M080G2GC (80GB SSD), Seagate ST375058AS (750GB) magnetic drive
Monitors: Dell 2405FPW, Samsung T240HD
Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit.

PI *does* scream on this system. In fact, I wonder if the issue I saw has anything to do with PI itself. Just thought I'd ask  :)
