Corrupted or missing image files on the Wiki
« on: 2010 March 01 09:54:48 »
It appears that images within the file image gallery on the Wiki has been corrupted.  Trying to display an image out of the File Gallery gets an error message that the image cannot be displayed because it contains errors.

I'm wondering if the transfer of the data from the old system to the new might have caused some grief.

From the wiki select the "File Galleries" from the left menu, expand the "Working Files" twisty, and either try to view the frontpage-screenshot.jpg or do down one more "directory" into the screenshots folder and try to view any of those files.

Hi Cheyenne,

Yup - I am seeing the same corruption, both on the home-page image and in the Galleries folder (although I can get the only JPG image present to load, it is just that it appears 'all pink')

Hopefully Juan will pick up on this and can investigate.

Cheers,
Niall

Hi Cheyenne and Niall,

Yes, all wiki images seem to be corrupted in a strange way. Unfortunately, the only backup of these files that I have is in the backup of the wiki itself, since the images and other files are within the wiki directory tree. So I regret to say that we have no way to recover them. I have no idea what the cause is for such corruption.

The image on the front page can be easily replaced, but the figures in some tutorials are much harder to repeat. I am sorry for this problem; AFAIK, this is the only data loss we've had during the migration to the new server.

I'll try to fix this as well as I can, as soon as possible. Right now my maximum priority is 1.6, so I may be a little slow...

I found all but one of my screen shots and they have been reloaded.  Will be easy enough to recreate.
