Hi all,

We have listened to you: Today we have taken the decision to extend our PixInsight trial license to 45 days (previously 30 days).  Current users of trial licenses will see their trial periods extended automatically. The PixInsight core application will still say that your trial license expires after 30 days from the date of approval (on the Help > About dialog). Just ignore that information: you have 45 days to try out PixInsight.

We hope this will help potential PixInsight users carry out better evaluations of our software.

================================================

Good move Juan, after all it is a positive incentive to new users, and costs 'you' nothing.

New users will either 'join' or 'leave' in their own good time. And if they spend more time getting to know the new software, they are more likely to join the longer that they have to experience the PI environment.

Hola Juan,

Es una decisión inteligente. Incluso la prolongación a 60 días sería una buena decisión.

Saludos,
Sergi

Yes I also believe it's a smart decision.

Once upon a time... I downloaded a trial version of a piece of software (one of those "one trick pony" programs for astro photography that cost more than what they're worth it)... The weather that month wasn't so good, and so when I finally had a chance to try the software, the trial period had expired. I wrote to them explaining the situation. I got no answer, and they didn't get my business. True story.

I figure that the reasons behind extending the trial period for PI are not mainly to avoid that from happening, but still, I think it's a smart decision.

I had the same experience - no reply, until I 'hunted' the software 'owner' down in a discussion Forum - and posed my request publicly. The guy was unwilling to modify his policy, saying that if he did this for me, he would have to do it for everyone.

So, now, I make a point of (privately) letting folk know exactly how poor his service was - and that this is what they should expect from all of his products.

On the other hand, I am happy to tell ANYBODY, that - even after their trial licence has expired, all they have to do is to contact Juan - and explain things. The PixInsight policy is very strong, and certainly has trust and satisfaction right at it's very heart - surrounded by stunningly clever code, of course!
