AutomaticBackgroundExtractor
« on: 2009 November 18 00:45:47 »
Although more often than not I use the DBE instead of the ABE, I've been noticing that every once in a while, when I use the ABE, the "Selecting background regions" process takes over 20 minutes per channel. This is on a computer that is not top of the line (Win32 XP, 1GB RAM, Core2Duo) but still. What I find odd is that this is not always the case, sometimes it works fairly fast, then others...

Yes, it is odd... From this end, I don't know what is happening. Let's wait for Juan's rescue :D

Hey RBA, welcome to the PI forums!

ABE is very fast on my system as well although it's more powerful than yours. In cases like this it's best to upload an image so Juan can try it :)
Best,

Hola Rogelio

Bienvenido a PixInsight Forum.

There were some issues with ABE in a relatively "old" PI version, 1.5.6 if I remember well. What version of PixInsight are you using?

Hi Mr RBA    King of the APOD

I used to run ABE 0n a machine like yours with 2 meg and never found any problems !!!!!!!!

But saying that if my virus checker kicks in I might as well go to bed as it nearly stops if PI is trying to do something intensive

Ahh the joys of intermittent problems

¡Gracias por la bienvenida!

I'm running a "relatively old PI version"  :)
So no, you don't have to tell me what I need to do now  O:)
If I see it happening again after I upgrade, I'll let you know.
Thanks!!!

I urge you to upgrade. You're missing a lot of new features, performance improvements and bug fixes! For example, now I know why you aren't using StarAlignment to build mosaics with its new preview-based registration capabilities, or StarGenerator+DynamicAlignment  :). Which remembers me that I have to make some video tutorials on these tools really ASAP...

No, not really. All we need is a write up that explains what the various buttons and dials do. After that videos would be nice :)
