Color moire in integrated image.
« on: 2020 March 01 14:07:13 »
Hi.
I'm having problem with color moire in the integrated image, see attachment.
Integrated from 266 images shot with a DSLR on two occasions. The two sets have a bit different alignment, which I assume is the cause of this color moire?
Is there a way of getting rid of this pattern? I have used BackgroundNeutralization and Colorcalibration on the attached image.
Any help is appreciated.

Best regards,
Lage

Hi Lage,

in your integration I see vertical streaks and colored blotches. The blotches are not a moire pattern. In your image north is at the left side, so the vertical streaks are in east - west direction, i.e. in RA. The issues are definitely not caused by different alignment of the two sets. Presumably wrong / missing image calibration and not dithering are causing these artifacts. (The blotches have a large scale and will not be removed by dithering though.) However, some more information might help to classify the issue correctly:

- Which camera model did you use?
- Which exposure time was used for the subframes?
- Did you dither between subframes (presumably not or not sufficiently)?
- Did you calibrate the frames with a MasterDark and a MasterFlat?

If the answer to the last question is yes:
- How did you capture the dark frames? Presuamably the DSLR camera is not equipped with a cooling device. Were the dark frames captured at an ambient temperatures similar to the ambient temperature when the light frames were captured?
- How did you prepare the master calibration files and what were the settings for ImageCalibration?

It seems this is a known problem with the latest 2.0.17 security update of Simple Machines forum:

If somebody knows how to solve this problem, I'd appreciate any information. Right now I am unable to resolve this. Please use links to externally stored images for now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I ahve received the following responses to this attachment problem

you issue is -- with fair certainty -- the issue noted in the first response.
Your system is choking on memory...  if the mod didn't help, then I suggest checking with your host.
Yes the memory was indeed the problem in my forums...no idea how but it was trying to allocate waaaay too much ram and after I adjusted it from its enormous amount down to 1024 for each forum the members can attach images to their posts again.

try installing https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=4111 and see if it helps.
